What is Social Bird

Your collection starts with a photo

Point your camera at a bird, and Social Bird suggests what it is. You confirm the species — you always have the final say — and it joins your personal collection. Follow fellow birders, record your outings, and watch your regional lists fill in over time.

Identify from a photo

Take or import a photo and get an AI species suggestion with possible matches to compare. It's a suggestion — you review and confirm the identification yourself.

Build your collection

Each confirmed species grows your personal bird collection. Explore regional catalogs to discover birds you hope to find next.

Share with a community

Post sightings, follow other birders, ask for help with a tricky ID, and keep an eye on the species you most want to see.

Map your sightings

See your own sightings on a map and save birding spots. Choose whether to share a sighting with its location, post without location, or keep it private.

Record outings

Start an outing to record your route and the birds you find along the way. Save it for yourself, or share its sightings as a photo post.

Earn achievements

Collect illustrated badges as you hit sighting, species, outing, and streak milestones. A little reward for getting outside.

How it works

From a photo to your bird collection in four steps

  1. Photograph a bird — take a new photo or import one from your library.
  2. Get a suggestion — the app proposes a species with possible matches to compare.
  3. Confirm the species — accept the suggestion or pick the species yourself. Nothing is recorded as a species until you confirm it.
  4. Save your sighting — keep your photos and notes together, and grow your collection as you confirm new species.
Honest about identification: AI suggestions are estimates, not verified facts. You review and confirm every identification, and you can always enter the species by hand.
